Captured during an unexpected run of snow in February of 2011 just outside of the Anacortes Ferry Terminal in Washington State. We had been staying on Orcas Island for a few days when the heavy snow hit the area. We were concerned we might get stuck on the island, so we carved our way through the snow to the ferry terminal and caught the ferry from Orcas to Anacortes, Washington. The lot in Anacortes was entirely empty and covered in fresh snow, which offered a rare view of the center island and tree pictured here. We followed a snow plow down the length of Whidby Island, eventually driving out from under the snowline around Coupeville, Washington.
