"The beach of Negril is a 7 mile stretch of white sand bordered by large resorts, small hotels, and restaurants. There are vendors everywhere, either grouped in a market area, or tucked into nooks and crannies along the way. Though the vendors are plentiful in numbers, their offerings are largely the same: beaded jewelry, t-shirts, wraps, wood carvings, and conch shells. One vendor had a large display of conch shells set up to sell in an old canoe on the beach. I loved the colors and lines of the shells, and walked back up the beach later with my gear to photograph them, but by the time I got up to the spot the vendor was gone.

We asked one of our drivers one day what a good price is for a conch shell, he paused a moment and said "Ya mon, you know I wouldn't buy one so I don't know a good price for dat." Fair point, I suppose that would be like someone coming to my neighborhood asking me what a good price would be for moss, or a really smooth river rock."
